Commemorating the 28th anniversary of the Jaffna Nagerkovil Maha Vidyalayam massacre

On September 22nd, the 28th anniversary of the Jaffna Nagerkovil Maha Vidyalayam massacre was solemnly observed. The event was attended by the school's Principal, teachers, students, staff, and members of the general public.

This tragic incident occurred on September 22nd, 1995, when the Sri Lankan Air Force deliberately conducted an airstrike on the school during school hours. The attack involved the dropping of two bombs, resulting in the loss of 40 innocent civilian lives, including 21 students. Additionally, over 35 people suffered severe injuries as a consequence of the airstrike.

During the commemoration, participants paid their respects to the victims by adorning the monument erected in their memory with a garland of flowers. A minute of silence was also observed as a mark of remembrance, allowing the souls of the victims to rest in peace.
