Eastern University students pay tribute to fallen LTTE cadres

Students from the Eastern University paid their respects to fallen LTTE cadres on the second day of Maaveerar remembrance week.

The students lit lamps by a Pongu Tamil memorial on campus and called on students to mark Maaveerar Naal on November 27 to honour those who sacrificed their lives.

Events are taking place across the Tamil homeland in the run up to Maaveerar Naal,  which is marked on November 27, in memory of the first death of a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam cadre, Lt. Shankar who died in combat on November 27, 1982.

Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view

We need your support in keeping our journalism going. Support our work today.
