A delegation of EU MEPs who are currently visiting Sri Lanka said they were disappointed about the lack of progress on repealing the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
“We were told ‘it will be done’. We were under the impression that there will be rapid change but there isn’t. We hope once the Budget process is out, Parliament will take measures to change this piece of legislature,” the MEP, Jean Lambert who led the delegation was quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying at a press conference today.
She reportedly added, "because the GSP+ concession was granted, it doesn’t mean that the recipient could sit back and relax."
The paper noted, "the MEPs expressed concern that the progress achieved has been slower than originally hoped, but that the foundations for that progress were now mostly in place."
