Prosecutors have charged a Tamil man in Germany over claims he was involved in the 2005 assassination of Sri Lanka's foreign minister, Lakshman Kadirgamar.
Authorities announced that the man, Navanithan G, has been charged as an accessory to murder and with membership of a foreign terrorist organization.
They allege that he was a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) intelligence unit from 2002 to 2009 and provided information that assisted the assassination. Lakshman Kadirgamar was Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 2001 and from 2001 until his death, during which time he was instrumental in pushing for the proscription of the LTTE by states worldwide.

The move by Germany comes after another Tamil man was indicted by authorities earlier this year, accusing him of committing war crimes in 2008 whilst he was a member of the LTTE.
