The Indian Air Force has sparked controversy over their decision to fly over Sri Lanka’s former army commander, and accused war criminal, Shavendra Silver and his wife to attend a military parade as the Chief Guest.
Silva travelled from Delhi to Dehradun to attend the Passing Out Parade at the Indian Military Academy.
The statement comes as governments across the world are considering imposing sanctions on the former army commander. During the armed conflict Silva led Sri Lanka's notorious 58 Division which oversaw a litany of human rights abuses including summary executions; the shelling of hospital and food lines; the white phosphorus against civilians; rape and sexual violence; and enforced disappearances.
