Former Vanni MP and Attorney-at-Law Hunais Farook submitted a statement to Mannar Police over his participation in the Pottuvil to Polikandy (P2P) protest march.
The statement was recorded at the former United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian’s Mannar office, last month on the 21st February. The police officers probed Farook with a number of questions, pertaining to the P2P protest last month, including whether he had violated a court order and whether precautions were considered, given the coronavirus threat.
Sri Lankan security forces have been intimidating and collecting statements from Tamil and Muslim MPs, local councillors, activists and families of the disappeared across the North-East who took part in the Pottuvil to Polikandy (P2P) march.
Several Tamil politicians across the North-East have been subjected to scrutiny over their participation in the P2P march after Sri Lanka's public security minister Sarath Weerasekara warned that the government intended to take retaliatory action.
P2P demonstrators mobilised around demands for the United Nations and international community to act against the injustices perpetrated against Tamils and Muslims in Sri Lanka.
