Militarisation: Another army building opens up in Jaffna

The Sri Lankan army constructed yet another building in Jaffna earlier this month, as the military continues to consolidate its presence in the region.

The commander of the security forces in Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi attended a ceremony, complete with Sinhala Kandyan dancers, to open the new building for the 5th Battalion of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps earlier this month.

The construction marks yet another building for the military in the region, which continues to occupy vast swathes of land across the North-East. It comes despite continued calls for the demilitarisation of the North-East.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view
