At least one person was killed after a mini cyclone struck Vavuniya this week, as villagers struggle with a military enforced curfew in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
A reported 46 houses were damaged by the cyclone, with 47 different families, as many as 157 people, impacted. Buildings, thousands of papaya trees and farming areas were also damaged by the weather, with many of the villager livelihoods badly affected.
The man who passed away has been identified as S. Mangeshwaran.
