Tamils marked the 12th anniversary of the Mullivaikkal genocide with a remembrance event in the capital.
Over 150 Tamil attended the event and laid flowers on a monument resembling the Mullivaikkal memorial monument at the University of Jaffna, which was destroyed earlier this year by Sri Lankan authorities.
Organisers of the event also served kanji to honour the victims and survivors of Mullivaikkal. Kanji was the only source of food in the conflict zone as the state had heavily restricted the flow of food and medicines into the Vanni.
Demonstrators were joined by Palestinian, Kurdish and Sudanese communities.
