Protests prevail on Tamil New Year

While the Tamil new year or chithirai puthandu is celebrated mid-April among communities in the Tamil homeland and across the diaspora, this year festivities were foregone by protestors across the North-East who instead observed a 'black day', wearing black clothes and holding black flags.
