Severe drought in Mannar affects livelihood of Tamil farmers

The livelihoods of Tamil farmers has been affected by severe drought in the district as persistent dry weather has led to few crops.

The water levels in Mannar district have been depleted due to the lack of rain over the last six months. Small ponds and canals have also completely dried up.

Last month in Manthai, Mannar, the paddy crop of farmers engaged in small-scale cultivation such as peanut production, was also destroyed due to the weather conditions.

The lack of water available for drinking has also caused the deaths of livestock.
