The Sri Lankan Army has announced that it will send a high-profile team to Haiti to investigate allegations of rape committed by a Sri Lankan peacekeeping soldier.
The appointed Court of Inquiry which consists of three senior army officers, to investigate the allegations, is also under the mandate to investigate if there were any deliberate attempts to discredit the Sri Lankan Army in Haiti.
Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.
