Sri Lankan police arrest 4 Tamil youth outside Prabhakaran’s home

Sri Lankan authorities have reportedly arrested at least 4 Tamil youth outside LTTE leader V Prabhakaran’s home earlier today, amidst a heavy security presence in the region.

The four youth were reportedly clearing shrubs around the home, which was destroyed by Sri Lankan authorities several years ago. The group have been taken into custody with their national identity cards also reportedly confiscated.

Police have stepped up their presence around the destroyed building ahead of Prabhakaran’s 64th birthday today. Uniformed officers were deployed around the home in Valvettithurai.

Earlier today, Sri Lankan police also arrested the former Northern Provincial Council member M K Shivajilingham for attempting to mark the birthday of the LTTE leader.

Journalists reporting on the arrests also said they were threatened by police who warned them to leave the area and photographed them.
