Colombo Telegraph has alleged to have received a leaked report by Sri Lanka’s Presidential Commission of Inquiry on political victimisation, which is to be used to exonerate and acquit war criminal and money launders and punish respondents.
Amongst the listed cases is the abduction and slaughter of 11 Tamil youth by the Sri Lankan Navy; the assassination of Tamil MP Joseph Pararajasinham; the murder of journalists Lasantha Wickrematunge, Upali Tennekoon, Keith Noyahr and many others; and the Welikada Prison massacre. The commission has also exonerated a number of several Rajapaksa family members and close associates.
The Commission has recommended that those implicated in these heinous crimes should be "compensated" through financial compensation, promotions, foreign workshops and popular school or university enrolment for their children.
Nimal Rataweera, writing in the Colombo Telegraph, goes on to state, “bar none, every suspect and accused in cases linked to atrocities committed when the Rajapaksa regime was last in power”. They have been exonerated “largely based on hearsay and statements by the complainants themselves or witnesses on their behalf.
The Commission was chaired by pro-Rajapaksa former Inspector General of Police, Chandra Fernando, as well as retired Court of Appeal Judge Chandrasiri Jayathilake and “disgraced” Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne.
