A Tamil mother died today after spending 21 years searching for her son who went missing in Vavuniya.
61 year old, Thamotharampillai Perinpanayaki, from Maravankulam in Vavuniya, passed away due to an illness without knowing the whereabouts of her son, Tharumakulanathan, who has been missing since 2000.
Perinpanayaki has spent the last four years with other relatives of the disappeared protesting in Vavuniya, demanding to know where their loved ones are and calling for an international accountability mechanism.
Last week, another Tamil mother from Mullaitivu passed away while searching for her missing son. Over 75 parents have died in recent years while searching for their missing children.
On Saturday, families of the disappeared marched through Kilinochchi to mark four years since the beginning of their continuous roadside protests across the North-East.
