Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West, speaking in British parliament on 3 October asked the government if the Foreign Office will apply pressure on Sri Lanka to allow an international investigation.
“Thank you Mr Speaker on Sunday a vigil will take place outside downing street in memory of children who lost their lives or who disappeared at the conflict in Sri Lanka in May 2009.
Could we have a statement from the Foreign Office on whether they will ever apply serious pressure to the Sri Lankan government to allow an international investigation into the very serious allegations of war crimes and grotesque human rights abuses that have dogged Sri Lanka ever since the end of that conflict?”
Jacob Rees Mogg, MP for North East Somerset, responded on behalf of the government stating “the Foreign Office will take this incredibly seriously and look into it.”
