UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged Palestinians and Israel to step away from escalating conflict on a snap visit into the region.
Stating that the violence was undermining Palestine’s hope for statehood and long term stability in the region, the UN Secretary General said,
“The conflict has one on for far too long. We must for the future of our children come back from this dangerous abyss, safeguard the two state solution and lead people back into the road towards peace.”
Mr Ki-moon met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu upon arrival in the region on Tuesday and will meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank on Wednesday.
US Secretary of State John Kerry is also expected to meet with the two regional leaders this week.
