The families of the disappeared in Vavuniya came together to protest and call for the Sri Lankan government to be brought to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands.
They gathered near the Vavuniya Old Bus Stand, yesterday morning as an increasing number of family members have died recently without seeing justice for their loved ones.
Demonstrators held placards and banners with slogans such as; “those protesting for their relatives want international justice”, “we oppose Sumanthiran and Sritharan who are not for the people of the North-East”, “immediately halt the atrocities by the military forces in the North-East”, “produce Sri Lanka’s war criminals at the International Criminal Court”, “tell us the truth about what happened to our relatives and what happened to those abducted in white vans” and “release political prisoners without any conditions”.
Another big banner reading, “Oh! The International community! We are in the street with tears” was held.
Many of the demonstrators were seen crying as they surpass over 1,230 days of continued protests demanding for justice and answers to the whereabouts of their loved ones.
