Wishing Tamils a "very happy Thai Pongal", the chair of the UK's All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils (APPGT), Paul Scully MP reiterated the call for the Sri Lankan government to implement the UN Human Rights Council resolution it cosponsored.
"To Tamils in the UK, Sri Lanka and across the world, vanakkam and happy Thai Pongal. Pongal is a time to celebrate the sunshine bringing the harvest but in 2018 let's also make sure that we shine the light on the Sri Lankan government to finally address the ongoing human rights concerns in Sri Lanka and also to bring a reconciliation process to the fore that has the confidence of Tamils both in Sri Lanka and their diaspora across the world," - Mr Scully, the MP for Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park, and the newly appointed Conservative party vice chairman for London.
"As the chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Tamils I'm going to make sure that we shine that light on the Sri Lankan government and that we work with the United Nations so that they adhere to the resolution that they themselves signed up for," he added, in a video address.
Taking the opportunity to celebrate the work of British Tamils, Mr Scully said,
"Tamils in the UK share our values that a great education, hard work and building up family support networks is the best way to allow familities to survive, thrive and prosper. And that's why I really welcome and value the contribution that Tamils here in the UK make to our economy, to our culture and to our communities."
