Hundreds of armed Sri Lankan soldiers were seen deployed across the North-East this morning as they carried out disinfection regimes on the streets in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
Troops from Sri Lanka’s Special Task Force (STF) were seen patrolling the streets during curfew hours, alongside other soldiers who were spraying disinfectant chemicals.
The Sri Lankan military has led the regime’s response to the coronavirus outbreak, with Shavendra Silva – a general subject to US travel sanctions over war crimes – leading the task force.
