EPDP MP attacks students in Vavuniya

Last week, an EPDP MP, Thileepan attacked a student in Vavuniya. The youth was attacked by the EPDP members during a confrontation between two student groups in Vairavapuliyankulam, Vavuniya.

There have been a series of clashes between youth groups in the Vairapuliyankulam area in Vavuniya for the past two days.

District Development Committee Chairman and Member of Parliament K. Thileepan had arrived at the scene after being summoned by a student to resolve a student conflict. Reportedly this wasn't the first time that the MP became involved in a student clash.

Soon after, conflict broke out between the students and some members of parliament. According to a student, the EDPD MP attacked a student and fled the scene on his vehicle. Police then arrested two students that were involved in the clash and carried out an investigation.

After filling the initial complaint, the MP withdrew it following the circulation of videos of the incident on social media. No further enquiries have taken place with regards to the MP in question.
