On October 4th, a joint protest was organised by a youth group from Mannar and various civil society organisations, demonstrating their solidarity with the ongoing protests in the North-East condemning the death threats faced by former Mullaitivu District Judge T. Saravanarajah.
During the protest, participants emphasised the critical issue of the lack of judicial independence, which is hindering judicial officials from performing their duties without fear or intimidation. Chants echoed calls for accountability for politicians involved in issuing death threats and influencing the judiciary.
Held at the Mannar bus stand, the protestors prominently displayed black flags and voiced their demands. The demonstration saw the participation of notable figures, including Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi MP Selvam Adaikalanathan, attorney-at-law Selvaraja Dinesan, former and current members of local government bodies, as well as youth and concerned citizens from the area.
