Residents in Mannar demanded authorities stop the Department of Forest Conversation's acquisition of paddy fields land in Nanattan.
"Parliamentarians should stop the land acquisition immediately," the villagers said.
"Assistant Agrarian Development Commissioner and agrarian service centres did not condemn it. They didn’t not take any action to halt it," they added.
Due to the war and the military's the tightening of security Nanattan's residents were displaced into neighbouring villagers before being resettled at the end of the armed conflict.
During the displacement their agricultural activities were severely affected and paddy fields and their boundary fences were left untended.
