Former Bosnian Serb army chief Ratko Mladic refused to testify at The Hague earlier today, after he was called in to testify as a witness for former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic.
Mladic was unusually called in for the defence of his former political leader before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), where both men face numerous counts of genocide and crimes against humanity.
However, Mladic refused to testify before the court denouncing it as “satanic” before walking out. When asked if Mladic had informed Karadzic that “that prisoners from Srebrenica would be, were being or had been executed?”, he stated,
“I refuse to testify on the grounds of my health and because it may prejudice my rights as an accused.”
Mladic then added,
“I do not recognize this hate court… It is a satanic court.”
He went on to walk out of the court, telling Karadzic,
“Thanks a lot, Radovan. I’m sorry, these idiots wouldn’t let me speak. They defend Nato bombs.”
