As many as three different protests have taken place in Colombo this week, denouncing Israel’s assault on Gaza and expressing solidarity with Palestine.
Protestors in Colombo this morning gathered outside the UN offices in the southern capital and held placards in English, Tamil and Sinhala, stating “Stop The Genocide” and “Stop ‘Israel’ State Terrorism”.
Last week, a similar protest was held in front of the Dawatagaha Jumma Masjid, with former MP and member of the opposition party Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Mujibur Rahmah in attendance. Speaking to the media he said that “Israel continues to deny the right to self-determination of Palestinians”.
The protests come as another rally in support of Israel was also held last week, led by Sinhala Buddhists who applauded Israel’s support for Sri Lanka in its war with Tamils.
