The commander of the Sri Lankan navy took part in a series of ceremonies in Nainaitvu this week, opening a new extension to a Buddhist temple and new accommodation for troops at a military base.
After opening the new accommodation building at the Northern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne went on to visit the Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya. The third floor of a memorial building dedicated to a Buddhist monk was opened at the vihara.
“This memorial building was constructed by the Sri Lanka Navy, utilizing the financial donations of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Sri Lanka Naval Buddhist Association and devotees of Nagadeepa,” declared the official Sri Lankan Navy website.
The commander went on to partake in a series of Buddhist ceremonies alongside the Sri Lankan naval troops.
