A Tamil journalist has been arrested by the Sri Lankan Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) this morning, over allegations that he had he published pictures of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on Facebook.
The journalist, identified locally as Gokulan, was arrested on Sunday morning at his home in Batticaloa. Gokulan is a photographer who is attached to the Batticaloa Press Club.
After being arrested, he was taken under police custody to the local police station before being transferred to Colombo. Reports suggest that Gokulan has now been taken to the fourth floor of the CID headquarters in Colombo, an infamous torture site.
The arrest follows a clampdown across the North-East by the Sri Lankan security forces. Several arrests have already taken place, including of a priest in the North and of several Tamil youth over Facebook posts in the East.
