Black flags were hoisted at Jaffna University to mark Sri Lankan Independence Day today, as a symbol of protest against the ongoing repression in the Tamil homeland.
Despite the presence of security, protestors secretly planted the flags across the university campus.
Meanwhile in Colombo, the Sri Lankan government held a military parade with the president Maithripala Sirisena vowing to protect the pride of the armed forces, in the face of a United Nations resolution on accountability.
