Catalan ministers will be outlawed after declaring independence warns Spain

Catalan ministers will be outlawed if they defy courts and declare independence warned Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Ildefonso Castro.

Speaking in an interview with Sky News, Mr Castro said,

“You can disagree with the law, but you cannot disobey the law. If you disobey the law, you become an outlaw.”

Commenting on Spain’s response to the Catalonia independence referendum last week, that saw hundreds of voters injured by police brutality, he said,

“I think the action taken by police last Sunday in Barcelona was absolutely proportionate. Having people injured – not in the numbers the Catalan government said – is sad. We don’t like that and we understand it’s not pleasant to watch that on TV- But we do think the response was proportionate.”

Catalonia’s leader on Friday pledged to officially declare independence in Catalan parliament on Monday.
