China offers Sri Lanka new grant of $295 million USD

The Chinese President has offered Sri Lanka a new grant worth $295 million USD, reports Reuters.

Sri Lanka’s President, Maithripala Sirisena, made the announcement on Saturday at a ceremony inaugurating construction of a Chinese-funded hospital in Polonnaruwa, saying, “when the Chinese ambassador visited my house to fix the date for this ceremony, he said that Chinese President Xi Jinping sent me another gift.”

“He has gifted 2 billion yuan to be utilized for any project of my wish. I’m going to hand over a proposal to the Chinese ambassador to build houses in all the electorates in the country.”

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view
