US President, Donald J. Trump, has convened a press conference during which he claimed that the World Health Organisation (WHO) had “failed in its basic duty and it must be held accountable” for the poor handling of the coronavirus.

During the press conference, Trump also claimed that the WHO promoted Chinese disinformation days before the initial outbreak of the virus in Wuhan.

President Trump is facing significant backlash for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic initially claiming that it was a “hoax” and pushing for an end to protective lockdown measures so as to have citizens returning to work by Easter.

This statement follows the US’s commitment of $ 1.3 million USD to support Sri Lanka. In their statement on the donation of support, they stated that the US in 2019 contributed over $400 million, almost double the second largest member state contribution.
