Vavuniya Families of the disappeared protest
Vavuniya families of the disappeared have marked 1,600 days of continuous protest and condemned China’s growing influence across the Tamil homeland and its obstruction of justice in holding Sri Lanka accountable for war crimes at the United Nations Security Council.
The Tamil families of the disappeared who have been demanding to know the whereabouts of their forcibly disappeared loved ones, also called on "China to leave the Tamil homeland" stating that China is not a "friend of the Tamils."
"We, the mothers of the disappeared Tamil children, are telling China to leave the Tamil homeland"
The families called for the international community, specifically noting the European Union, United States and India to "act without delay and establish a permanent political solution for Tamils in Sri Lanka."
In recent weeks the families of the disappeared in Vavuniya have demanded the repeal of the GSP+ trading preference with the European Union and for both the EU and US to work together to achieve a just political solution that addresses Tamil grievances.
