The Tamil National Alliance will stand firm in their calls for an international investigation into Sri Lanka's war crimes, Northern Provincial Council chair C. V. K. Sivagnanam has said.
Speaking to Mariko Yamamoto, political adviser at the Japanese Embassy, Mr Sivagnanam emphasised that even if the Sri Lankan government came up with a domestic process, this would not be acceptable to the Northern Provincial Council.
Mr Sivagnanam also told Ms Yamamoto that the Japanese government should prioritise urging Sri Lanka to free Tamil political prisoners, as well as providing assistance to war widows and other assistance to stimulate economic growth in the North-East.
