Meeting with India's external affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj who was visiting Colombo, the Tamil National Alliance discussed the ongoing delays in the constitutional process.
The TNA leader, R Sampanthan and its spokesperson, M A Sumanthiran met with Ms Swaraj on Friday, as she attended the Indian Ocean Conference.
Highlighting the fact that much work had been done on the constitution, Mr Sampanthan said that it could not be delayed any longer and the draft Constitution should be approved by Parliament before the end of this year and the referendum thereafter.
Ms Swaraj reassured Mr Sampanthan of India's support in this regard, the TNA said in a statement following the meeting.
