Aftermath of bombing at Zion church in Batticaloa
Sri Lanka's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today detained the mother of the suspected suicide bomber at the Batticaloa Zion church in the Easter Sunday blasts.
CID officers raided the house of the suspected attacker, named by police as Mohamad Nasar Mohamad Asath, also known as Rilvan, in Kathankudi, Batticaloa.
According to local residents, his mother was asked to identify his photograph and upon confirmation, she was detained.
Over 250 people were killed by bomb blasts at three large Colombo hotels and churches across the island including in Batticaloa, Colombo and Negombo.

Eye witnesses at the Zion church in Batticaloa described the suspected bomber travelling towards children who had gathered to celebrate Easter Sunday.
At least 26 people were killed at the church with over 100 wounded.
