A rally was held through Batticaloa this morning, as hundreds of Tamil families marched and demanded an international mechanism to hold those responsible for enforced disappearances and find their missing loved ones.
Tamil families from across the Eastern province, including Batticaloa and Amparai, gathered in the town this morning as the Sri Lankan government prepared official ‘Independence Day’ celebrations. A heavy uniformed police escort accompanied the rally as it marched through the town.
The protestors marched through Kalladi Bridge and called for Sri Lanka to be referred to the International Criminal Court and those responsible for crimes against humanity to be prosecuted.
