The Pirampadi massacre in Kokkuvil was remembered for the 33rd year on Monday. Over fifty Tamil civilians were shot dead or crushed with an armoured vehicle by Indian Peacekeeping Forces (IPKF) during the massacre.
The Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) paid its tribute to the victims of both the Pirampadi massacre and of several other massacres that occurred in the late '80s in a tweet stating,
“Today we remember the victims and survivors of the Pirampadi massacre on 11th and 12th October, 1987, when more than 50 Tamil civilians were shot and crushed under armoured vehicles in Pirampadi Lane (Kokkuvil, Jaffna) by the Indian Peace Keeping Forces.”
“We also remember the Tamils who were killed in several massacres that occurred on this day in 1987 during the IPKF offensive, including at Mallaakam, Chunnakam and Kollankaladdi.”
