Over 2,000 people who have contracted the coronavirus have been quarantined in Mullaitivu, District Secretary K. Vimalanathan said in a press briefing yesterday.
“In Mullaitivu, 2,158 people belonging to 538 families have been quarantined as a result of contracting the coronavirus,” he said.
He further said that a majority of the 448 cases that had been recorded previously in the district were related to the outbreak of cases in the Puthukkudiyiruppu garment factory.
The lockdown that had been imposed on three Police divisions in Mullaitivu since May 17 came to an end yesterday. However, two Grama Sevas in the Mulliyawalai and nine in the Puthukkudiyiruppu division will continue to be under lockdown.
The District Secretary said that people will be allowed outdoors only for essential needs and advised them to act carefully.
