‘IMF intervention must take heed of past travesties of justice to Tamils’ – Siobhain McDonagh

Speaking in parliament, Labour MP Siobhain McDonagh called for an urgent debate to discuss the “worsening economic and civil rights crisis in Sri Lanka”.

“Protests on Monday saw 9 people killed and 200 injured allegedly by the supporters of the Rajapaksa administration” she noted.

She further added that there is “clearly a need for the IMF to intervene”. She stressed the need for any IMF intervention to “take heed of the past travesties of justice to the Tamil community of Sri Lanka”.
