The fifth day of excavation at the Kokkuthoduvai mass grave, conducted on September 11th, marked another significant step in the ongoing investigation. the excavation team, led by the Mullaitivu Judicial Medical Officer (JMO), yielded the recovery of skeletal remains belonging to three more victims on this day.
In total, since the commencement of the excavation, the skeletal remains of five victims have been exhumed from the site. The Mullaitivu JMO, speaking at the conclusion of the day's excavation, noted the complexities of the process. Due to the presence of multiple remains buried on top of each other, it remains challenging to accurately speculate on the total number of victims buried within the mass grave.
The excavation will continue into the following day, September 12th.
