Vavuniya
The Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) held a march in Vavuniya today reiterating the party’s stance in calling for justice, accountability, and an international mechanism to investigate allegations of human rights violations perpetrated by Sri Lanka.
The rally was led by members of the TNPF including Selvarajah Kajendren, Kanagaratnam Sugash and several others. The public participated in the rally by holding placards calling on the Sri Lankan government to return lands presently occupied by various Sri Lankan government institutions and an international mechanism for truth and justice.
Another rally, organised by the New Democratic Marxist-Leninist Party, started in front of the Tamil Maha Vidyalayam and reached Vavuniya City through Bazaar street where a meeting was held.
Kilinochchi
The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) and trade unions from the Kilinochchi district demonstrated from Kilinochchi Nagar Pilliyar Temple to Kilinochchi Central College where a public meeting was held.
ITAK leader S Shritharan and former ITAK leader Mavai Senathirajah were amongst those present at the rally.
Jaffna
The May Day rally organized by the Ceylon Teachers' Association was held in Jaffna this morning. The rally started from the Nallur temple and ended at the Kittu Park where a public meeting was held. The General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union, Joseph Stalin, and representatives of the academic unions were also represented.
The National People’s Power (NPP) also held its May Day rally in Jaffna. The event was organized by Jaffna District Organizer Ramalingam Chandrasekar and was held at the Thanthai Chelva Memorial Square and later at the Central College.
The party called on people to gather together to find solutions to the issues in the country. NPP members Vijitha Herath, Saroja Savitri Paulraj, the head of the NPP women’s organizations, and the affiliated unions took part in the event.
