The discovery of the Kokkuthoduvai mass grave on June 29th by workers from the National Water Supply and Drainage Board while replacing pipes in the area. What followed were a series of developments and delays in the investigation.

Following the incident's report to the police, Mullaitivu Magistrate Court Judge T. Saravanan visited the site on June 30th to assess the situation. Upon his inspection, Judge Saravanan ordered excavations to commence on July 6th.

This significant development comes as a response to ongoing efforts to investigate the origins of the mass grave.

This ruling has highlighted the failure of Archaeological Department officials to adhere to court orders, resulting in the Director General of Archaeology being held in contempt of court.

A racist mob has gathered in front of the private residence of Tamil National People's Front (TNPF) MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam for the second consecutive day. The protestors have been openly chanting racist slogans, demanding the arrest of the MP.
